When you're working through the numbers on a home, the last thing you need is to wonder who's watching. So here's the plain version of how we handle your information.

What you type stays on your device

Our calculators run entirely in your browser. The prices, deposits and postcodes you enter are worked out on your own device — they aren't sent to us, stored by us or attached to you in any way. We don't have accounts, sign-ups or forms that collect your details.

Server logs

Like almost every website, our hosting provider keeps standard server logs — things like your IP address, browser type and the pages requested. These are used to keep the site secure and running well, and we don't use them to identify you.

Cookies and advertising

We don't currently set cookies. BuyingCost is free because we plan to show advertising, and ad networks such as Google AdSense use cookies to show and measure ads. Before any advertising goes live, we'll update this page to explain exactly what's used and how you can opt out, including through Google's ad settings.

Our embeddable widget

If you use our stamp duty calculator on another website, it loads from our server and works the same way — the figures you enter stay in your browser.
